Maschine A Day #20:
Part of my ongoing occasional series of quick tracks made with iMaschine, this was jammed into AudioShare with Dedalus and ApeFilter. Slow and sparse (which you may have noticed is how I roll) it has a quirky quality that appeals to me.

Awash (In The River Of Tears):
The second of my flying home tracks, this was made on the Bangkok to Oslo flight; a nightmare of lack of sleep, lack of leg room, back and neck pain, and a general feeling that I was in danger of loosing my humanity.
A simple, gentle, sparse electric piano plays tangentially over an almost chaotic rhythmic ground.
Made in Gadget the piano is a combination of two Darwins and a Salzburg, while 2 Bilbaos, 1 Tokyo, and 1 Abu Dhabi make the beat. I love Bilbao and Abu Dhabi 🙂
I’m very happy with this track.
Also used to get the final result were: Twisted Wave, AudioShare, Dedalus, and ApeFilter.

Released:
Beautifully slow and sparse, this downtempo piece of electronica via Gadget really soothes my soul. I hope it does for you too.
The first of two tracks that I made on the flights home, this one was made on the Sydney to Bangkok leg of the journey.

Concentrated Work Ethic Rots (from the inside):
A downtempo, almost dubby track from Gadget, I love how the bass ostinato feels slightly awkward at times against the rhythm.
I wanted to try out two Gadgets that I never use; Berlin and Phoenix, because they got a of love in a post on the iPad Musicians Group, but I quickly found that neither of them is to my taste. So I added 3 instances of Kiev plus some London and Amsterdam for the drums and I quite enjoy the result.
Addendum:
I just noticed that I accidentally posted two tracks for Sunday when I caught up with my travel posts on the wednesday morning. Never mind, let us leave it and consider this a bonus 🙂

Silvan Midnight Revisited:
This is an Ambient Soundscape made in response to a request from my son. He asked me to write a track to go with a print that he has hanging on his wall; a night time forest scene with a river running through it.
I used Gadget which, though primarily aimed at loop based EDM styles, is more versatile than that and can easily be used for more ambient work.

The Bells, The Bells!:
Today is a bit of a change, no Gadget, no drum beat, no bass, or synth arpeggios. Todays track marks a return to my Soundscape work; when I first started this blog a large percentage of the tracks were Soundscapes but for some reason there have not been very many lately. For me they are an interesting and vital way of approaching music; I try to create a landscape of sound that the listener can be immersed in, and/or a journey or story that can be followed.
Today I used Mersenne, TwistedWave, and Auria to make/craft/construct the track.
Thank you for your attention Trackers.

Dressed For Distressed:
A Beatscape using only some of the more rhythmically oreintated Gadgets in Gadget.
I’m cramming lots of family and friends stuff in the last few days of my holiday so please forgive me if these posts have gotten a bit laconic 🙂

Transparent Shift:

Today I decided to explore another Gadget that I don’t often use in Korg’s Gadget, today it was Wolfsburg; this has 6 instances of that and one of London for the drums. I also used Dedalus.

Miserable Hero:
More from my Holiday Gadgetfest.
An interesting side effect of some one like me, who has no idea of the intricate tangle of electronica and EDM genres, using an app like Gadget which is equipped with a plethora of sounds from across that arcane spectrum, is that I use the sounds with no knowledge of those original contexts and therefore create a mishmash; one that is perhaps painful to the aficionado. This idea is interesting and fun to me.
An interesting side effect of getting up in the early hours of the morning because I can’t sleep, is that my mind runs along funny lines like this.
No matter, I am definitely embracing my inner EDM guy with this current Gadget fixation and I hope you are enjoying the ride.

Major Farce:
A slow Chill Ambient piece. Another of my holiday Gadget explorations, this time I thought I would concentrate on one of the Gadgets that I haven’t used before, I really am only scratching the surface of what’s possible in this app.
Changmai is the Gadget I explored today, 6 instances of it in fact plus one of Bilbao for the drums.
