Day 126: Weds 30 Dec 2015

Audio, Tracks, Vocalscape No Comment

Oaf:

A Vocalscape.

I took the vocal from yesterday’s post and slowed it/lowered it/reversed it in TwistedWave, then looped it in AudioShare with AUFX:Dub, AUFX:Space, and Dedalus. Then I ran it through Sector. Then I loaded both files into Borderlands Granular and did a jam.

The end result is simply loading all three of these into Auria and arranging slightly.

Four Out Of Five Sad Pandas…:

A Beatscape with some minimal Spoken Word.

I began this with a slow beat in ElasticDrums which I then slowed by half and lowered in TwistedWave. Both versions were then added to Auria though only a little of the first was used.

Next I made a bass/drum sort of arpeggio in Addictive Synth which I slowed and added, again only using it occasionally.

Finally I spoke a line into AudioShare with AUFX:Space and added it to the mix. A little cutting and dicing and there you have it.

Slain:

A Vocalscape. All the sounds here are from vocals, My son Marley and I 🙂

I took the vocals from my entry to the iPad Musicians Group Christmas Competition (which you can hear if you like https://soundcloud.com/grant-horsnell/you-sleigh-me), which I had recorded with AudioShare and Altispace, and ran them through Sector with AUFX:Space and AUFX:Dub.

I also took a vocal that didn’t make it into the final song; slowed it by half in TwistedWave, slowed it by half again, and looped it in AudioShare with more reverb and delay. I then reversed it and loaded both versions into Auria Pro. This became the background in which the other vocals swim.

Encounter:

Vocalscape. That is almost all the sounds are vocals.

I began to play with VoiceJamStudio for the first time. It was a mixed experience but I was happy with this end result.

I exported my first attempt into AudioShare and ran it through AUFX:Space and AUFX:Dub. Then I ran it though Dedalus as well. I then opened each version in TwistedWave and slowed them all by 80% and lowered them by three semitones. Next I loaded all three tracks into Auria, did a little panning, and effected two of them with Emo Chorus.

I felt it needed a little more emphasis on the simple beat so I added a bass drum from Patterning.

Then I went back to VoiceJamStudio and recorded a second line, ran it through the same process as the first and added those files into Auria as a second part.

Michelle Says Hello:

Merry Christmas Track-A-Dayers.

Today’s post is a celebration, both of the time of year and for my reconnecting with an old friend. Michelle is my favourite bass; we have been separated for 18 months, living on opposite sides of the globe so this is her first (but certainly not last) appearance on Track A Day.

I changed her strings, gave her a loving clean, plugged her in to my iPad using the iRig Pro, fired up ToneStack, and had a good old reaquainting-jammimg-up-a-storm-hoedown.

I had been working on a beat in Auria using ElasticDrums and Patterning, so I added Michelle to the mix…and the rest is history 🙂

Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Ambient, Audio, Tracks No Comment

Silhouette:

Genre Unknown. Ambient perhaps…Sounds like a movie soundtrack though, perhaps a scene that pans across a dusk landscape, hills or sand dunes in silhouette.

Nothing but Alchemy, and only three of the four voices at that. It’s an app that is so easy to play with. Love it.

Day 119: Weds 23 Dec 2015

Audio, Featuring Trudi McBoody, Song, Spoken Word, Tracks No Comment

Staring Agamemnon In The Face:

I began today by making a beat in ElasticDrums and jamming it at 80 bpm into Auria with Dedalus and AltiSpace, then running it through AUFX:Dub turning the effect on here and there.

Then I repeated the process but at 40 bpm.

Next I loaded the effected 80 bpm file, and both the effected and uneffected 40 bpm’s into Auria where I panned, mixed, and arranged them into a Beatscape.

I felt a little more was needed so I opened up Alchemy and used my favourite drum kit to add some cavernous hits. While I was in Alchemy I decided to add the occasional synth swell, and then a bassline.

Now it sounded less like a Beatscape and more like a song, so I decided to try adding some words.

I opened up Evernote where I have lists: of song ideas, interesting words, and possible titles. I managed to write a stanza so I opened up iSpeech TTS and gave it to Trudi McBoody (the female British voice) and the male british voice. I loaded them into AudioShare and added a little Reverb FDN, then opened them in TwistedWave to slow them by 80% (I find this gives them a little more realism). Next I decided to add my own voice so I recited it in AudioShare with Reverb and slowed it down. The next step was to open them in their own Auria project and align all the phrases before adding the combined file into the main project for the final step of arranging the vocals on the timeline.

Day 118: Tuesday 22 Dec 2015

Audio, Beatscape, Featuring Trudi McBoody, Spoken Word, Tracks No Comment

About Face:

A Beatscape with Spoken Word.

I began today in Patterning where I made a beat and recorded it into AudioShare with Dedalus, using my usual technique of jamming while muting and soloing the different parts to make a composition. I then ran it through AUFX:Dub adding a little spice here and there. Then I did it again with a different setting in Dub. Then a third time but with FLUX:FX this time.

Then I put it into Auria and added a bassline courtesy of Addictive Synth, also with Flux:FX.

I also added a Theremin style lead part using Addictive Synth.

Next I wrote a vocal line and typed it into iSpeech TTS. From there I followed my usual procedure and effected it with AUFX:Space and slowed it down in TwistedWave, and then distributed it around the timeline in Auria.

For a final touch I recorded myself adding an additional line or two.

Day 117: Monday 21 Dec 2015

Audio, Beatscape, Featuring Trudi McBoody, Tracks No Comment

Do It:

A Beatscape with vocals.

Today’s track used two files that I had prepared earlier: The vocal line from ‘For What They Did’  from yesterday (done using iSpeech TTS, AUFX:Space, and TwistedWave), and a beatscape from October (done using Audiobus, Mimex, AudioShare, Dedalus, AUFX:Space, Arpeggist, Addictive Synth, and iMini).

I ran the vocals through Turnado and Sector, and the beatscape through FLUX:FX before loading all three into Auria for mixing and arranging.
