Day 165: Sunday 7 Feb 2016

Ambient, Audio, Beatscape, Featuring Trudi McBoody, Spoken Word, Tracks No Comment

Sooner Or Later (Pessimism Edit):

An Ambient Beatscape with Spoken Word.

This began with Arpeggist and Addictive Synth. Once I had something I liked, I loaded Addictive into Auria along with Poseidon and TF7, designed matching sounds in each synth, and recorded them all playing the slow sparse arpeggio. I also copied two of the synths to new tracks. applied some distortion with Muckraker, and panned them.

The beat is from Patterning, I knew I wanted something simple with only a few variations.

Next I loaded up MitoSynth for the ghostly slow lead sound (I don’t often use presets, preferring to make my own, but this suited the track so well).

I pasted the lyrics to iSpeech TTS, slowed them in Twistedwave and added some AltiSpace in AudioShare; but when I added them to the track I was unhappy with them so they got relegated to backing vocals.

The final touch was me reading the lyrics straight into Auria with reverb and delay from the inbuilt effects.

Day 162: Thursday 4 Feb 2016

Ambient, Audio, Beatscape, Tracks No Comment

The Abyss Talks Back:

An Ambient Beatscape.

I began today by making a beat in ElasticDrums which I recorded into Auria. Then I loaded up Patterning and made a matching but slightly different beat which I recorded into several tracks using different drum kits. An arpeggio from Poseidon provided the occasional bass, and the ambience is from Ondes and Addictive Synth played together from Ondes and slowed by TwistedWave, and an Absynth jam that I imported from my MacBook and treated with Dedalus and AUFX:Space before time stretching it in Auria.

Day 159: Monday 1 Feb 2016

Ambient, Audio, Soundscape, Tracks No Comment

Ruefully:

A disturbed ambient piece.

I did a jam last week using my Axiom Pro keyboard to play Korg’s Module app with an Electric Piano sound. I ran that through Sector, trimmed out a promising piece, looped it, and then slowed it. All using TwistedWave and AudioShare.

Today I took that into Auria and timestretched it limps and stumbles along, almost languidly. Then I added two Addictive Synth tracks; just jamming along after I add chosen some sounds from my own collection.

Listening to it now, it reminds me of seaweed near the shore, being pushed and pulled by the waves.

Day 155: Thurs 28 Jan 2016

Ambient, Audio, Beatscape, Tracks No Comment

Non Interference Policy:

Part Ambient Part Beatscape. Today’s track was difficult to pull off; partly because it took awhile for me to give it a shape and a story, partly because I can’t keyboard very well, and partly because I had various technical difficulties. Midi always gives me trouble.

One of the issues with trying to finish a track a day is that sometimes I feel the track needs more work. That is the case today. Perhaps I will return to this one day and try to polish it some more. Perhaps when, and if, I get a little more comfortable with midi 🙂

Anyway I used my Axiom Pro midi keyboard to record the synth line which was the start of this track. I began with TF7 but it refused to play nice with Auria (dropping out the sound and requiring restarts) so I moved to Poseidon. My keyboard skills are rudimentary so a little midi tweaking was required, after which I copied the midi to three more tracks: one to iSem for bass, one to Lyra for piano, and another to Lyra for electric piano.

The drums are from Patterning, one track with high hats was effected with Muckracker, and the other without the hats was effected with Caramel.

Abstract, Ambient, Audio, Soundscape, Tracks No Comment

My Clouded/Crowded Mind:

This Playlist is five tracks/one track, intended to be listened to in the above sequence. It/they are a combination of Ambient and Abstract Soundscapes which hopefully make for whole listening experience.

This has been building for a while; elements of these tracks where made today, yesterday, and last week.

The apps involved were: iDensity, Grain Science, Borderlands Granular, TC11, AUFX:Dub, AUFX:Space, SilQ, Auria, AudioShare, TwistedWave, and (in a first for this blog, a non iPad app) Absynth 5. I did two jams on my MacBook and used Dropbox to transfer them to the iPad for inclusion in these sessions.

Day 151: Sunday 24 Jan 2016

Ambient, Audio, Soundscape, Tracks No Comment

(L)ove:

An Ambient Dronescape.

I made the dronescape using 4 tracks of Addictive Synthinto Auria, hitting the dice for random sounds and jamming with the ones I liked. Then I sang accapella into AudioShare (just whatever came into my head, which was about my love for my wife). I treated this file with Turnado and cut out my favourite bit which I blended into the drones to complete the composition.

Ambient, Audio, Guitar 'Scape, Tracks No Comment

For My Best Friend:

A guitar jam recorded into Auria using ToneStack, plus a drone from Addictive Synth.

Sometimes simple is best 🙂

Day 148: Thursday 21 Jan 2016

Ambient, Soundscape, Spoken Word, Tracks No Comment

Furtive:

Ambient Soundscape with Spoken Word.

I jammed with iM1 into Auria, using a patch of my own making, then jammed against it with one of my own patches in Poseidon. Then I added a drum part which I had constructed using iMPC Pro and TwistedWave which I cut up so it only appears occasionally. Next I jammed an electric piano using Lyra (the midi sampler in Auria), I doubled this part using a different electric piano sound and treated them with slightly different reverb and delay settings using Auria’s inbuilt effects. Finally I added the vocals which I had already recorded using AudioShare and AltiSpace.

Inverting The Phase (On The EM Band):

An Ambient Soundscape.

I decided to play with iM1 today. An app that I enjoyed on it’s release but haven’t returned to for a while, perhaps because of it’s complexity. I used two presets and one patch that I had already made; jamming them into Auria. I jammed my own patch twice, once low and once high.

Day 143: Saturday 16 Jan

Ambient, Audio, Soundscape, Spoken Word, Tracks, Vocalscape No Comment

Skeletal:

Soundscape, Dronescape, Vocalscape, Spoken Word, Ambient. Take your pick.

This began with some lyrics recited into AudioShare with Altispace which I took into Sector and then into Borderlands Granular. I also took it into TwistedWave and slowed, lowered, and reversed it.

I now had four variations which I arranged in Auria, also adding two drones from Addictive Synth.
